How to dress for a Job Interview

.WHEN attending a job interview, remember to dress for success. The first impression is crucial, and this includes your appearance. However, while dressing properly may not get you the job, it will give you a competitive edge and a positive first impression. What you wear at your interview is very important. Employers can decide in 10 seconds that they don't want you based on this.

You should stick to dark colours instead of bright ones. These can make you stand out too much. Another way to impress the employer is wearing the corporate colours. This shows you have done some research about the company and that you would be committed to the job.
Here are some more helpful hints on how to dress to impress:

The safest option is to dress conservatively. I'm not suggesting for one second that you go out and blow your bank balance on a Chanel suit but I am suggesting that you 'dress for the occasion'. For example, if you are going for a formal interview, say with a financial institution, dress appropriately .Never go under-dressed; this makes the employer think you don't care enough about the job.

If you are unsure what is appropriate, simply call their Human Resources office to ask. This means you are likely to be wearing clothes that make you look like you fit into the organisation. Skirts, especially straight styles like the fashionable pencil skirt, should be loose enough to sit down in comfortably. And blouses shouldn't gap between buttonholes. Showing too much cleavage at interview is a big no-no, save the risqué looks for the weekend.

Too much perfume or aftershave can be overpowering and off-putting. Instead, use the minimal amount to leave a faint scent. Your hair should be well-groomed but avoid over-the-top hair styles and instead settle for something simple. Swap your killer heel for a kitten heel, as it will not look good if you are unsteady on your feet. You should avoid using large handbags at interviews. Slouchy handbags can look sloppy; instead choose fashionable structured styles that will also project an organised image.

Also, use make-up to create a natural look. Too much make-up can be seen as lack of confidence and as if you have something to hide, so go easy on the slap and let your natural beauty shine through. And last, but not least, good luck!
