If you had solemnly predicted that the humble hanky and sensible headscarf were about to influence the latest, most chic fashion statement, no one would have believed you. But against all the odds it's emerged as one of the key looks for spring.

Spotted first on the catwalks at Armani, Vivienne Westwood and Salvatore Ferragamo, it's a key accessory of the season and is destined to be the most wearable thing in your wardrobe.
It's suggestive of more glamorous times and yet it's very classic. You don't have to wear it on your head, but as a belt or just tied to a bag. But what counts with a headscarf is the way it is worn and tied.
